If you’re looking at this you know you need it for grabbing control of your mix or master and using using your ears rather than a mouse to get it spot on. Mackie DAW Custom PMVA Display! PASSIVE MATRIX VERTICAL ALIGNMENT. Available in the following colours! Blue with Black Background. White with Black Background. Red with Black Background. Originally, i had a small number of RED. But i didn’t proceed with that colour as I thought the demand would be too low. Recently, however, I’ve produced a small batch of them, quantity 100, with ultra bright LEDS. This has been done, so they match up better with the SSD digits. The RED will be available from August 2023 onwards. Plug N Play in every 1st Generation. Plug N Play in every 2nd Generation. Amazing Custom PMVA Super Black Display! Designed and built specifically for the Mackie Control. This display was designed from scratch to perfectly compliment the Mackie with ZERO design compromises. In keeping with my new shop philosophy, I wanted to design a custom’LUX’ upgrade, not only operationally correct, but also visually beautiful. A perfect match for the Mackie metal chassis. More importantly, a display that eliminates the annual nuisance and cost of replacing backlights. Once this special PMVA is installed. Your display problems will be over. Technical specs are as follows. PMVA (Super Enhanced Black) LCD Panel! The performance of this Passive Matrix Vertical Alignment display, completely blows away any standard Twisted Nematic type display. Contrast ratio is an amazing 1000:1. Response time is super fast with NO ghosting! PMVA is visually indistinguishable from OLED! Custom Optimised Metal Bezel! Bezel width and height have been specified to match the Mackie viewing window precisely. The AA area is within 1mm of the characters. This leaves a perfect black border framing the 55×2 character lines. Combined with the superb PMVA contrast performance, the display looks amazing! Optimised Desktop 6 o’clock Viewing angle! Correct 6 o’clock viewing angle required for desktop use. The viewing angle has been set during manufacture, optimised precisely for the way these controllers are used, user seated, desktop view. When the display is adjusted, its contrast and viewing angles behave in a very precise way. The contrast can be set up perfectly, then left untouched. Adjustable Optomised Contrast Voltage! Display contrast is adjustable via an attached (blue) potentiometer. This can be set, then tucked neatly inside and forgotten. The contrast is set and forget. This is possible because the viewing angle was optomised during production. A wide usable angle can be dialed in around your own personal viewing position. PMVA displays have a very wide (full) viewing angle. This means it’s not necessary to continuously adjust the display contrast. Custom LED Backlight design! Designing a long, thin LED backlight with an even distribution of light, no dead spots / light spots, that fits inside the standard bezel height, something that cannot be changed due to the Mackie chassis mounting points, was complicated. The majority of work designing this display was spent experimenting and perfecting the backlight design. The end result is a display with perfect even light side to side with no deadspots or lightspots. Each character 1-55 has identical brightness. The PMVA panel is completely black corner to corner, OLED like in appearance. The look of the display is completely flawless! The backlight in this display is unusual, multiple LED’s mean it draws slightly more current than a normal type. Fortunately, as usual, Mackie designed the circuits properly. Linear 7805 voltage regulation is present on the mainboard with sufficient margin. As a result, NO problems will ever occur driving the backlight and display logic from the mainboard. Under steady state current conditions (switched on/up and running) everything is well within safe margins for long term, fault free continuous use! Importantly this means the display can be installed quickly and easily Plug N Play by anyone! NO tech skills are required! NO Soldering is required! NO Modifications are required! NO Service Centre Tech is required! Red, White or Blue Backlight Colour! There are 3 choices of backlight colour. The performance of all 3 displays is spectacular due to the special PMVA panel. The Red display was produced for anyone wanting to match the display to the Red SSD digits. Its possible to have the whole meter bridge Red on Black for a neat look. The blue on black always looks right in any instrument, the White has marginally the best contrast, marginally, as nothing ever trumps White on Black. The look, response, performance of each display is equally exceptional, therefore, colour choice should be based only on what’you’ think looks best. (currently only blue available). Backlight voltage inverter/driver removal! Once the LED display is installed, the old EL backlight inverter/driver (ICA-0726) can/should be removed. It is no longer necessary (see instructions) This will immediately eliminate the buzzing/whining noise you “may” be hearing from your controller. I recommend you remove it while your inside installing the display, this will ensure you won’t have any problems in future. Its very likely it’ll become noisy, eventually. So, it’s sensible to remove it while your installing the PMVA display. ZERO future repair / maintenance costs! Once installed, expect 15+ years of uninterrupted, service free operation. PMVA displays are good for 100k+ hours. As well as backlight costs, the time spent annually taking apart the Mackie is saved too. After a few years, the PMVA will have effectively paid for itself. I’ve been contacted by fed up owners who had to change the old backlight every 7-8 months, asking for my help. I’m sure this LED display will be useful to anyone who owns these Mackie DAW controllers. You (must) use the new fasteners to assemble the PMVA display. 3 extra hexagonal standoff are included for the awkward space under the chassis. This means assembly, if required, is possible at the top without a screwdriver. Its necessary to space the display because LED displays are slightly thicker. The M3 standoff had to be custom made because nothing suitable was available, anywhere. Instructions on how the PMVA bolts in, connects and interfaces with the Mackie, can be viewed using the link below. Everything required to install the display is included at no extra cost (incl a new 14way FFC ribbon cable) Reaching the top 3 display screws underneath the meter housing is a pain. This is why the new fasteners are hexagonal and stackable, eliminating the need for a screwdriver. The performance of this display is spectacular! Once installed and set up properly, it looks amazing. Exactly what i had in mind when i began this project. The build quality is equally impressive. The company i partnered with to build this display, have done a phenomenal job with the manufacturing. The tooling, production costs, factory MOQ etc for this special PMVA were considerable. The price reflects those costs and the many many hours spent designing it. The price, taking into account it eliminates future service costs, is cheap for what you’ll recieve. A beautiful PMVA display you can install yourself at NO extra cost. The only cost is the display itself! Under NO circumstances should anyone have to pay a tech to install this display. The installation process is straightforward. I’ve carefully designed it to bolt in and connect the same way as the old LCD. Detailed illustrated Instructions will be provided. This display will ONLY work with the Mackie equipment listed above. Its a custom display designed specifically to upgrade the Mackie DAW controllers.
