This is a modified large diaphragm condenser microphone in a U87/U89 style body. The original factory capsule has been swapped for a quality cardioid pattern K-47 style 34mm capsule. The factory circuit is flat and has been retained from the original microphone. The result is a darker tone, devoid of the high frequency emphasis common on Chinese microphones and better suiting the microphone’s transformerless FET circuit. It would be a great match for more sibilant sources. The mic is in unmarked’like new’ condition. Supplied in original box with leatherette sleeve. Would be a great candidate for further modding, such as by changing the circuit/adding a transformer to taste etc. Will be well packaged.

This is the famous Dolby Cat 22 with the VOCAL STRESSOR MOD. This Cat22 has the complete modification that is based on the Dolby cat 43 system. This is used as a side chain on a vocal and blended into the mix along with the straight vocal. The result is dynamic equalization that adds a presence not easily obtained. The vocal will always sit on top. If you have never heard one, the result is amazing. This VOCAL STRESSOR is built upon the Dolby “A” type noise reduction circuit of the Cat22. Dolby A type noise reduction principal splits the audio spectrum into 4 bands. Band1 is below 80hz, 2 is 80-3000, 3 is 3K-9k and 4 is above 9KHz. These bands were chosen for level content and its effectiveness in eliminating tape hiss in the record / playback process. Using this system Dolby developed the Cat43a/b system for use in the film re-recording process. This system took the four bands of A type noise reduction and placed them under manual control for expansion and compression. A manual input level as well as the threshold level of the compressors / expanders. This proved quite effective in reducing camera and background noise in dialog tracks of film mixing. A modified Cat 22 was available with different frequencies that helped this even more. By using the 43a/b system in a music mixing environment much more of the AMAZING effect can be obtained. These different frequencies are used in the top 3 bands of the VOCAL STRESSOR. These shifted bands are then combined back together, not in equal values, but in levels obtained from the Cat43 system. The shifted frequencies offer more control to the effect, as well as reducing the sibilance sometimes found with a normal Cat22. This card will plug into any 360/361/362/365. Full details on set up will be provided. These should be available locally and usually quite cheap. This is not the common mod that is on many sites. That mod simply cuts the bottom two bands. IT does not have shifted frequencies. And other circuitry based on the cat43. These are guaranteed for years. EBays layout does not allow this to be listed. They only go to 60 days. The cards are put through a 24 hour burn-in prior to running a complete graph with a PrismSound dScope II. Then the modification is done.
