A DIY clone of the V1 mutable instruments Ripples, built by me a couple of years ago using a PCB from amazing synth and a pusherman front panel. A great sounding filter, all in good working order just surplus to requirements at the moment. The tracking of using 1v/o may need a little adjustment using the trimmer on the PCB. Brand new, fully assembled, calibrated and tested Monsoon (altered Clouds), flashed with the latest Parasites firmware (original Clouds or Beat-Repeat firmwares also available). Originally designed by Mutable Instruments and now discontinued, redesigned by Jak Plugg down to 12hp with the addition of red/green bi-colour illuminated faders for the four granular parameters that show the polarity and level of their CV inputs and the blend knob split into four separate knobs with individual CV inputs. Built by Monolith Modular (except some SMT components which are factory soldered) using the Jak Plugg designed PCB and matt black, textured PCB material, 2mm thick panel plus self-sourced quality components as per the designer’s specification with metal shaft, panel mounted pots, and black Davies 1900h/micro knobs (white, cream, grey and red also available) and black buttons (white, black and red also available). Also features panel screws and standoffs for extra support over the faders. Assembled by an experienced synth builder using lead-free solder. Mutable Instruments modules are open-source hardware, created under cc-by-sa license which means they can be legally cloned, modified and commercially distributed. So this module while being derived from the original design and schematics is not manufactured, supported or endorsed by Mutable Instruments. However it’s functionality is identical to the original and we will offer support if there is a problem with it. Clouds is focused on the realtime granularization of incoming audio signals, and their transformation into amorphous textures. The textures generated by Clouds are extremely thick, partly because of the large number of concurrent grains (up to 60), partly because of a built-in allpass diffuser and reverberator, smearing the shortest transient into a wash of noise – giving the illusion of an even larger number of simultaneous grains. Not just an MKII version: its hardware and software have been redesigned from scratch. Just like its predecessor, it offers direct access to a large palette of easily tweakable raw sonic material, covering the whole gamut of synthesis techniques. Simplicity first: Gone are the screen, menu system, hidden settings, and the long list of somewhat redundant synthesis models. Thanks to additional CV inputs, and to the use of three timbre-shaping parameters per model, Plaits is straightforward to use, and much closer to the ideal of one synthesis technique = one model. What were fragmented islands of sound in Braids are now part of a continuum of sounds. Ready for percussion: Patch a trigger generator or sequencer into Plaits’ trigger input and instantly use the module as a percussive source thanks to its built-in virtual low-pass gate (LPG). An internal D (decay) envelope generator is normalled to all unpatched CV inputs. Just turn the corresponding attenuverter to add pitch, timbre or morphing modulation. And if plucks and snappy hits are not your thing, patch your own envelope or CV source into the LPG CV input. Two detuned virtual analog oscillators with continuously variable waveforms. Variable slope triangle oscillator processed by a waveshaper and wavefolder. 2-operator FM with continuously variable feedback path. Two independently controllable formants modulated by a variable shape window (VOSIM, Pulsar, Grainlet, Casio CZ-style resonant filter). Wavetable oscillator with four banks of 8×8 waves, with or without interpolation. Chord generator, with divide down string/organ emulation or wavetables.
