The Tang Band W3-1878 full-range driver features an underhung neodymium motor design that provides extended, linear response while reducing 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion. The bamboo/paper cone is lightweight yet appropriately rigid and is terminated with a durable foam rubber half roll surround. This can be done by tilting the cabinet back and setting the speaker in place. If the cabinet has bare wire leads, just wrap them around the solder lug connector on the back of the speaker to make the electrical connections. A friend can help hold the speaker in place while you listen to the new speaker. This is, of course, not an optimal way to listen to a speaker, but will give you the opportunity to identify major response problems or poor tonal characteristics prior to mounting. The W8-2145 full range driver from Tang Band with its bamboo fiber reinforced paper cone can provide incredibly smooth response from 40 to 20,000 Hz. With an underhung motor design, most of the voice coil stays within the magnetic gap for the highest possible control to keep 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortion at a minimum. The unique whizzer cone with phase plug design allows for better dispersion while increasing high frequency response. This driver is ideally suited for small single driver speaker systems with incredibly smooth and full sound. Aluminum phase plug also acts as a shorting ring for lower distortion.
