Calrec Condenser Microphone Made For SIMMS-WATTS
Up for sale is my vintage Simms-Watts branded Calrec Condenser Microphone (Made in England, serial #1043). I own the Calrec CB1000, 450, Fi-Cord 1200, CM450 and had a collection of the CM2000’s. You already know how special those sound. The 450 doesn’t much of that same magic out of the two copies I’ve had but this Simms-Watts has a pixel dust sweet and tight punch that leans between 1200 and CB1000, has depth and a sweetness in the mid, airy and bright sound, it’s hard to put into words but that’s how I’d describe it. It’s great for vocals, or guitar as it smooths out frequencies that would jump out, perhaps so smooth that it has character and weight perfect for particular jobs. Honestly looks as good as it sounds. Built like a tank. The grill/ anti-pop filter on this is genuinely the best I’ve ever come across, you don’t need an external pop shield with it and deals with plosives extremely well. Cosmetically, the gold paint on the body has faded over time as you’d expect with age, but the gold on the grille is still holding up nicely. About two dents which does not affect use. I had it fully serviced back in 2020 by Hebden Sound and still have the receipt and it’s been kept safely stored.
